President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State over the reported killings, injury of several persons and wanton destruction of property in Guma and Logo Local Government Areas of the state in the New Year. In his reaction, Mr. Buhari, while expressing sadness at the “wicked and callous” attacks, assured the governor and people of the state that relevant security agencies have been directed to do everything possible to arrest those behind the regrettable incidents and avert further attacks.

Rob Kardashian has denied Blac Chyna’s claims that he assaulted her during an alleged incident in April 2017. The 30-year-old television personality has 13-month-old daughter Dream with his former partner, who claimed in a lawsuit filed late last year that Rob had been violent toward her during their tumultuous relationship. Chyna claimed in the documents filed in November that when she tried phoning her former partner Tyga - with whom she has five-year-old son King Cairo - Rob "immediately grabbed the phone from her hand and violently knocked her to the ground where she landed on her hands and knees”.

A professor of Language and Communication Arts at the Rivers State University of Education, Prof. Olufumilayo Adesanya-Davies, on Tuesday declared her intention to contest Nigeria’s presidential seat during the 2019 general elections. Adesanya-Davies, who is from  Ira,  Kwara State, said the sale of nomination forms free for women aspirants boosted her interest in the race. She, however, said she was still keeping the platform of the party under which she would contest a secret.

The driver simply identified as Samson has been arrested for killing his boss and dumping his body in a septic tank at Ekiadokor area of Ovia North East local government area. Two other suspects were also arrested in connection with the killing. It was learned that Samson sold his boss’ vehicle to a herbalist at Ovbiogie village and told his children that their father was kidnapped. The police source said Samson informed the victim’s children who are based abroad that the supposed kidnappers were demanding for the sum of N2 million.

Alicia Keys is fighting to be dismissed from a $16.5 million lawsuit filed against her and husband, music producer Swizz Beatz, who is being sued by a luxury car company. In September, lawyers for Metro Gem Leasing sued Swizz, 39, and Alicia’s company, AK Worldwide Productions, accusing the producer of reselling and fraudulently using leased luxury cars after he defaulted on the payments.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s son, Yusuf, has undergone a successful brain surgery, according to the Guild of Medical Directors. The Guild’s president, Prof. Femi Dokun-Babalola, disclosed this in a statement made available to Daily Sun in Abuja, yesterday. Yusuf had been on admission at Cedarcrest Hospital, in Abuja, after a power bike accident in the city, on Tuesday December 26, 2017. He suffered injuries to the head and limbs.  Following denials of plans to move Yusuf out of the country for medical care, there had been speculations that he could be transferred to the National Trauma Centre, at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Osun has been ranked the second less miserable and poverty-ridden state in 2017. The Financial Derivatives Company, which released the report, in its presentation, titled: “How the States Performed in 2017,” by its Managing Director Bismark Rewane, said in one of the top three economic analysts in Nigeria, Osun had the lowest net Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocation but was not delinquent in the payment of salary arrears. The report showed that Osun is the second best in the measured “Misery Index” with a 16.37 per cent inflation rate, which also sums up with the rate of under-employment and unemployment.

Sue Grafton, the mystery writer who penned best-selling novels with alphabet-based titles, starting with "A Is for Alibi" and ending with "Y Is for Yesterday," has died, her daughter, Jamie Clark, said Friday in a social media post. She was 77. "I am sorry to tell you all that Sue passed away last night after a two-year battle with cancer," Clark wrote on Grafton's official Facebook page. "She was surrounded by family, including her devoted and adoring husband Steve. Although we knew this was coming, it was unexpected and fast." Grafton died at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California, after battling cancer of the appendix, Alexis Welby, director of publicity at her publisher, G.P. Putnam's Sons, told CNN.

A 67-year-old American advance fee fraudster Michael Neu posing as a Nigerian prince has been arrested by the police in Louisiana. He was said to have duped hundreds of people across America using emails. Police said he faces 269 counts of wire fraud and money laundering following an 18-month investigation. Police in Slidell, Louisiana, say they finally caught up with one of the people behind some of those emails.
